Vision
Statement
Our Vision: To create an inclusive, mature themed, Live Action Role Playing game based on White Wolf’s World of Darkness that explores the dark themes of World of Darkness while keeping an open, inclusive, respectful and fair environment Out of Game.
Guiding Principles:
WoD Cannon: We strive to stay as close to the Dark Ages World of Darkness cannon as possible. Mechanics are designed to represent those found in the World of Darkness first, reinforce faction themes second and balance character against character third.
Factions as a whole; theme, abilities, strengths and weaknesses should roughly balance against each other.
In the World of Darkness no one is a true hero.
Mature Themes: This game is designed for players 18 years of age and older. There may be difficult concepts and situations portrayed that could potentially create real emotional and mental distress. It will be the Players responsibility to respectfully remove themselves from a scene in which they find themselves unable to separate the In Game and Out of Game reality.
Compete In Game, Take Care of Each Other Out of Game: We are here to have fun and character conflicts are part of the drama we create. However, it is important to check in with the players of those characters to ensure character conflicts don't turn into player conflicts. We want to foster a community that takes care of one another Out Of Game so we can be free to explore the mature themes of our game and the harsh nature of the World of Darkness.
Non-Discriminatory Environment: This Program does not discriminate and will not tolerate discrimination on an Out of Game level. However, in the In Game setting religious persecution, bigotry and intolerance towards other beliefs are realities both in the portrayed game time period and in the World of Darkness itself. These and many other dark themes may be explored In Game.
Excluded from IG themes; rape, sexual assault and modern racial slurs.
Rules Enforcement: Darkwood Nights is responsible for any official events and will uphold its rules in those locations and on its virtual platforms. The Program is not a social or legal police and will not involve itself with actions unrelated to Game or those that happen outside of our platforms. Players are encouraged to report illegal actions to the authorities.
Transparency is Important: Investigation Results for violation of Program rules and policies are made public for the protection of our community and in the interest of transparency and fairness.
WYSIWYG: As much as possible have things be required to be represented visually in game. We do not practice Mind’s Eye Theater.
Portraying other cultures etc.: Players are allowed to portray other cultures, ethnic backgrounds and religions as long as it is appropriate to the time period and done in a respectful manner. Players will conduct proper research and care before creating these characters.
Violence should never be the only solution: In WoD stabbing all your problems is a good way to die. Sometimes it’s the best option, but usually something else is better. Both Plot and Mechanics will support this.
Killing is easy, consequences are what prevents it: Character’s can die without significant mechanical investment. Purposeful death and assassination should be viable choices. Accidental death should be mitigated in mechanics but not impossible.
Encourage but not require Human characters: Humans are the foundation in which a successful WoD game thrives. The game uses XP and story to encourage human play to support the themes of both human and other factions.
Fairness: All players will have equal opportunities. Staff will not favor one player over others due to Out of Game reasons. Staff PCs will not be more powerful due to their role on staff. All opportunities for In Game power or benefits will be equally available to all players.
Darkwood Nights is a Program under WyldFae Productions and adheres to their core foundation of beliefs.
